ABOUT US
At first a successful amateur jockey, Patrick progressed to being assistant trainer to the legendary Luca Cumani before spending a decade across the Atlantic, learning from Eddie Kenneally in America and Mike Doyle in Canada, as well as spells in Dubai, New Zealand and back at home in his native Ireland.
Patrick returned to Newmarket and spent six years breaking in and pre-training young horses for illustrious names including John Gosden, Cheveley Park and Newsells Park Studs.
It was always Patrick’s aim to take out a license, and in late 2019, he sent out his first runner from the Authorized Yard. The arrival of his first winner, VENUSTA owned by Paul Cairns soon followed, and each season since has seen growth in both results and the quality of his string. Alongside his partner Amy, a former successful amateur jockey, who worked for the great David Nicholson, the couple provide a hands on approach to training in a friendly, family atmosphere.
ADAAY TO REMEMBER, bought for just 6,000gns, thrived under Patrick’s expert care, finishing second in the 2022 Group 3 Summer Stakes at York, rising to an official rating of 104 before her sale as a broodmare to Tally-Ho Stud for 160,000gns.
Another standout performer in 2022 was Mohamed Al Shahi’s Gregorian colt, WAHAAJ, who won his first two starts under Patrick before finishing runner-up in the prestigious Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown Park and earning decent prize-money in Europe’s richest two-year-old race, the Goffs Million at The Curragh.
In 2023, Patrick's flag bearer was another well-bought yearling, the 10,500gns Tattersalls December Sale acquisition ODDYSSEY, who was the yard's first Royal Ascot runner finishing THIRD in the Listed Chesham Stakes. ODDYSSEY later filled the same position in the Gr.2 Superlative Stakes, chasing home Ballydoyle's superstar in the making City Of Troy as well as subsequent Group Two scorer Haatem.
Oddyssey thus became a third black-type performer for Patrick in three years, with all three having been acquired for less than £20,000 apiece. Patrick has the ability to get the very best out of the raw materials he is presented with, as was further confirmed when €10,000 purchase ALMARIN won the ultra-competitive Jockey Club Grassroots Series Mile Final at Nottingham late in the 2023 season.
